At a time when rock and folk and country sounds were battling for audiences and territory, Dan Fogelberg chose to take a totally different turn. Relinquishing his trademark introspective lyrics mixed with melodies and harmonies that drifted between folk and country-rock, Fogelberg enlisted the services of Tim Weisberg and chose to explore a fusion of these familiar territories with jazz. This was essentially his way of operating during the heyday of his career -- the first hint of this was 'Netherlands' and the highest peak reached with 'The Innocent Age'. For now, enjoy this truly refreshing and constantly entertaining foray by a master songwriter and musician as he moved into untested waters (by his own admission, he figured the album was a bust and went to Europe to avoid the criticism -- only to discover he had another hit album on his hands).
