You 'so called Duran Duran fans' need your ears washing out! This is a good album! Some DD fans siad the same about Pop Trash and Medazzaland, and they are good albums. I like this a lot better than the wedding Album. Give it a chance. 5 stars easy!
This isn't a great Duran Duran album, it is an amazing one!
I've been a fan since 81, and have to say that I've been there all the way. I was sceptical about their involvement with Timberlake and Timbaland and wondered what on earth Nate Hills would ever bring to it, especially after reading neither he or Timbaland had ever worked with a band. These guys are beat masters not song writers.
The answer is mixed, you can tell they have little experience of a band situation, but it makes me wonder how much more amazing their next collaboration will be having learnt from this one, this should have been entitled 'a work in progress', as they will nail it next time, this isn't quite there yet, I'm sure that the band realise this.
The sound is also mixed, going from the un-dynamic Timbaland (full on and on one level) sound, to Nate's 'how does this need to sound' sound. Tricked Out is the biggest mistake of the album, it's a cross between the Munsters and a cheap Sci-Fi show soundtrack.
Box full o' Honey steals the show, this is vintage Duran and better than anything in recent years, there is just something to it...
Dirty Great Monster, aside from it's theme hosts an interesting Lennon'ish harmony and an underdeveloped rhythm, this is also unfinished and appears to be one of those "we know what we want but can"t figure it out" situations. I think the likes of Nile Rodgers, who I gather is out of favour with the band, would have fixed
I finished listening to this wanting more, not another listen but more tracks. I just hope that us fans don't have as long to wait for the next instalment.
Oh yes, if you thought I'd forgotten Timberlake's efforts, well... Falling Down isn't a great track, it's an underdeveloped idea.
Buy it and love it, just expect better next time...Their name is Duran, Duran Duran.
